Light rain falls, the streets are empty, with only a few lonely umbrellas moving slowly. My phone pops up with news of Ethereum's plummet, and my account balance is down to just a few hundred yuan. The cold silence outside intertwines with my desolation.
I am unwilling to accept it; why have I failed so miserably?
From being a problem-solver in a small town to getting into Wuhan University, then to a graduate program at the University of Hong Kong, I have given my all at every step. Yet now, I have lost everything.
Last year, I quit my job, bringing with me 200,000 yuan saved over a year and a half, diving into the world of cryptocurrency. At first, everything was great: monitoring the market daily, researching projects, analyzing trends, feeling freer than working a job, after all, I was working for myself. I made some money back then and made friends, sharing opportunities.
From the beginning of the year to the end, things were going well, with total profits exceeding 1 million, but I hadn’t withdrawn any. Until December, I judged that the market would enter a boom period for altcoins and decided to buy the dip on BOME. I fantasized about replicating the PEPE miracle, buying from 0.008 all the way down to 0.003. This morning's crash led to liquidation, with leverage of less than 3 times.
I bet everything, only for it to vanish into thin air.
The most ironic part is that I had my parents buy $bome starting from 0.004, averaging down to 0.003, and now it has been cut in half. It’s one thing to lose money myself, but to drag my parents down with me is truly tragic.
This year feels like sitting on pins and needles, opening the exchange daily only to see my account shrink. Facing inquiries from friends and family about work, I have no confidence; every day is exhausting yet unproductive, life is bitter, and I even face ridicule from relatives saying, "You’ve read so many books but still don’t have a stable job."
I wonder, who can still make money on exchanges? Coins that have dropped 5 times drop another 4 times, and coins that go online drop 4-5 times immediately? Can anyone really profit from this?
At this moment, my feelings are complex: unwilling yet confused and at a loss. The once passionate goals feel like paper soaked in rain, blurred and unclear. I don’t know where the road ahead leads, or if I can stand up again.
